Professor Chunguang Xu is director of Key Laboratory of Fundamental Science for Advanced Machining and professor in School of Mechanical Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, China. He received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation and master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bejing Institute of Technology, China in the year 1985 and 1988 respectively. In 1995 he obtained his Ph.d from Bejing Institute of Technology, China on "Cutting Tool Monitoring Technique in Metal Cutting Process".
Presently he is also visiting Professor at Northwestern University, USA (Collaboration with Prof. Jan Drewes Achenbach, Distinguished McCormick School Professor). For decades Prof. Xu has been engaged in the theory, technology, teaching and experimental studies of the acoustic emission, ultrasonics, structure laser measurement technology and automatic control. Some of the main innovative achievements are Ultrasound Scanning Theory and Technology, Characteristic Measurement and Calibration of Ultrasonic Transducer and Testing Instruments, Ultrasonic Nondestructive Measurement Techniques of the Material Properties, Geometric measurement theory and technology, Monitoring detection theory and technology.
He has and is leading several projects in ultrasonic and phased array testing. He has been awarded as outstanding supervisor of Ph.d Student in the year 2011. He has also been awarded outstanding Teacher for New century and outstanding young teacher by China Educational Ministry in the year 2005 and 2003 respectively. He holds 42 patents to his name on optical methods, ultrasonic testing, acoustic emission and automatic control. He has 133 publications in national and international journals to his credit.
